The past month has been quite the whirlwind! As we discussed in our last newsletter, we were actively raising financial support due to our increased costs and had to meet a target in order to return. We got approval to return to Uganda on October 3 and arrived back here on the 10th. Praise God!
We are incredibly thankful for everyone who is financially supporting us, whether new or old, who make it possible for us to continue our work in Uganda. We are still a little short of monthly support goals going forward, but we’re close enough for our mobilizing office to allow us to return. We’re so happy to be back home and settled.
Back to the Office
I (Bruce) have been back in the office for a little more than a week now and am slowly getting settled back in and caught up with the various projects going on at the moment. One of our main focuses at the moment is the power quality analyzer (PQA), which I was able to share about with a lot of you while on home assignment. In short, it’s a (relatively) low cost device that measures electrical consumption and quality that we’re currently designing and implementing. I’ll definitely talk about it more in a future update, but there has a been a ton of progress while I was away for home assignment. We now have 3 deployed devices actively collecting data. Data from one of those devices is already being used to size a new solar power system for Empower, one of the schools that EMI is building. The data is critical for accurately sizing the system and ensuring that we provide the school with an optimal system from both a performance and cost perspective. We’re excited to continue building out this device, add more functionality, and better serve our client ministries with it.
Creation Care Webinar
While Hannah is full time at home with our girls, she is continuing to provide various forms of support to our office and EMI as a whole. As part of that role, she is one of the co-presenters for a webinar tomorrow! EMI has an ongoing webinar series about creation care and our calling in that area as engineers and designers. Hannah will be presenting on Tuesday about landscape architecture and its role in caring for the creation that God has given us. Anyone can tune in – here’s a link to join live or to watch later: https://emiworld.org/events/656
Praise and Prayer Requests
- Praise God for the financial support that make it possible for us to be here.
- Praise God for smooth travels back to Uganda.
- Pray for Hannah and the girls as they get settled back into daily routines at home, and for Hannah as she presents at the creation care webinar on Tuesday.
- Pray for Bruce as he picks up work and gets plugged into new projects.
- Pray for the EMI Uganda office: There have been a few large construction projects this year that pulled out at the last minute, which have had significant impact on the office financials. Pray for our leadership as they navigate this and get us back on the road towards strong financial health.
- Pray for Uganda: The Uganda presidential election is happening in January. There was some amount of unrest during the last election 5 years ago, so be praying for peace and a smooth electoral process.
